WHAT THE HECK IS BILLY NO MATES?
Billy No Mates is a monthly, informal coworking collective for lonely workers. Sarah from KINSHIP set up the group in March 2023 with The Fox’s Tale cafe in Bishop Auckland, after craving company as a home worker.
With no fancy co-working spaces in rural areas, the ‘billy no mates’ began to gather monthly at local independent venues.

Working at home or alone can be really isolating. Billy No Mates started after Sarah hung out too much at her favourite coffee shop with her laptop then invited others to do it at the same time. The community that regular meet-ups creates is pretty special we must say!
supporting
independents
Purpose built co-working spaces are wonderful and very much needed. But there are lots of independent cafes and venues already in our communities with coffee brewing. We bring regular footfall and shout about our venue collaborators.
what we’re not
Stuffy old networking. You don’t need a suit, business cards or a 60 second intro - just come along and hang out. There is no pressure to refer work.
You don’t even have to talk if you have work to be getting on with, but just know that mates are there alongside you if you need them.

We welcome anyone who would like a change of environment or an ear from a supportive group.
You don’t have to be a freelancer. Plenty of home workers join us each month that work for larger companies.
